Questions & Answers

Planning a wedding brings a thousand little questions. Here are the ones couples ask most....and if yours is not here, just reach out and ask.

How far in advance should I book?

The sooner the better for popular dates and weekends, but Reverend Ruth specializes in short notice. Many couples book weeks ahead; others reach out just days....or even hours....before they say “I do.” If your date is near, do not hesitate. Call or text and she will do everything she can to be there.

Do you travel for ceremonies?

Yes. Reverend Ruth serves Central and Eastern Kentucky and is glad to travel for your celebration....from mountain overlooks to backyards, courthouses to chapels. For locations farther out, a small travel fee may apply; she will always be upfront about that when you reach out.

Do you officiate same-sex and LGBTQ+ weddings?

Joyfully and without reservation. Your marriage is sacred, full stop. Reverend Ruth celebrates every couple with the same reverence, warmth, and care....because love is love, and always has been.

Who handles the marriage license?

You will get your marriage license from a Kentucky County Clerk’s office before the wedding....Reverend Ruth cannot issue it for you. On your wedding day she officiates, signs the license as your officiant, and it is returned to the clerk so your marriage is recorded properly.

A few things about Kentucky that are worth knowing:

  • No waiting period. Kentucky has no mandatory wait between getting your license and saying “I do”....you can be married the very same day. (Wonderful news for last-minute couples.)
  • No blood test or physical is required.
  • Both of you must apply together, in person, at the clerk’s office to sign for the license.
  • Bring valid ID....a driver’s license, government-issued photo ID, original birth certificate, or passport.
  • Both parties must be 18 or older (anyone under 18 has special requirements).
  • The license is good for 30 days from the day it is issued.
  • It is valid anywhere in the Commonwealth of Kentucky....not just the county that issued it....so you can marry wherever your heart leads.

Fees and exact steps vary a little from county to county, so it is always worth a quick check with your local clerk. Reverend Ruth is happy to walk you through it so nothing is missed.

What does a ceremony cost?

Pricing varies with travel, timing, and the size of your celebration. Reverend Ruth believes cost should never stand between two people and their wedding day....reach out, and she will work with you kindly and honestly to make it happen.

Can we write our own vows or personalize the ceremony?

Absolutely. Write your own vows, blend two families, include your children, light a unity candle, fold in a favorite poem or reading....your ceremony should sound like you. Reverend Ruth will help craft something that is unmistakably yours.

Do you perform faith-based or traditional ceremonies?

Yes. For couples who long for scripture, ritual, and timeless words, Reverend Ruth offers warm, reverent ceremonies grounded in faith and family tradition....thoughtfully tailored to your beliefs. She also welcomes couples who prefer a non-religious or blended ceremony.

What happens after we reach out?

Reverend Ruth reads every message personally and usually responds within a day. From there, you will talk through your date, your vision, and any details that matter to you....and then she helps bring it to life. The first step is simply saying hello.
